At a glance
Choose iPhone + Watch or Watch only before starting. For Watch only, wait for Ready on Watch before leaving your phone.
Find it in VOXXToday → View today’s session → Recording → Record with Apple Watch
Decide which device you will carry and which will speak. In iPhone + Watch mode, the Watch records while the carried iPhone provides guidance. In Watch only mode, prepare today’s accepted session on your iPhone first, then start and follow it in VOXX on your Watch. Apple’s Workout app remains a separate export option.
Step by step
Prepare today’s accepted session
Install VOXX on your paired Apple Watch and open both apps nearby. Review today’s accepted workout and complete any required check-in or comparison on iPhone. Choose an optional route and prepare its voice before transferring it.
Choose your recording mode
Expand Recording, turn on Record with Apple Watch, then choose iPhone + Watch or Watch only. Watch options appear when the VOXX companion is paired and installed; a saved unavailable choice stays visible so you can review it. For iPhone + Watch, carry your phone and start once from it. For Watch only, choose Prepare on Watch and keep both devices nearby until Ready on Watch appears.
Connect earphones to the speaking device
Use iPhone-connected earphones for the carried-phone mode. For Watch only, connect them to the Watch and confirm that spoken guidance was prepared. VOXX uses one speaking device at a time; check the displayed guidance owner before setting off.
Start on the chosen device
In Watch-only mode, open the prepared session in VOXX on Watch, tap Start run, answer the Before you start checks and confirm Start run. Preparation is for today’s accepted session, not a library of future workouts. If your plan or check-in changes, prepare the session again.
Finish and reconnect
Use Pause or Resume deliberately. On Watch, choose Finish, then Finish and save. A Watch-only result waits locally until it can sync with the iPhone. Reopen VOXX with both devices nearby, check the saved run and add your effort and pain feedback.
What you can see on your wrist
The session shows time and phase, with distance, pace and fresh measured heart rate when supported and authorised. Pace and heart rate stay unavailable when missing or stale; recorded distance can remain visible. Optional heart-rate effort reminders need separate setup and a reviewed easy range. Watch-only sessions use Watch measurements; a Bluetooth sensor needs the carried iPhone. The next turn stays visible between directions. Street map detail needs a connection; Offline line view shows the saved route without downloaded street detail.
Prepare before leaving your phone
Watch-only recording and prepared workout cues run on the Watch. Routes and natural direction recordings must be prepared beforehand; new route searches need a connection. Keep your attention on crossings and the real path. Outdoor GPS and turn accuracy, long-run battery use and interruption behaviour are still being evaluated in the beta.
Prefer Apple’s Workout app?
In Plan, open Export to Apple’s Workout app and enable workout sharing. VOXX schedules the next seven days of eligible accepted sessions, keeping their timed steps. Check the intended workout has arrived, then start it in Apple’s Workout app. That timer is separate from VOXX. Do not start an additional Apple Workout for the same VOXX run.
Choose one path for the session
Choosing VOXX recording on Watch stops its separate Apple Workout schedule to avoid competing starts. It does not remove other apps’ workouts, and VOXX cannot join a workout already started in Apple’s Workout app. If the app is waiting for Watch confirmation, reconnect and follow that message before starting another recording.
Review one completed run
Check both the VOXX result and any Health-save status after finishing. Health access and provider syncing can affect when a recording arrives. Do not log a second run just because an import is delayed. Review Recording sources and plan pairing when another source arrives; an exported workout is not completed until you actually record it.
VOXX is in private iPhone beta. Features and screen labels may differ between testers.
