A 25-minute session means the whole session, including its planned warm-up and cool-down. VOXX breaks that time into understandable steps. You can see what you are doing now, what comes next and how much time remains, without memorising a workout before leaving home.
Step by step
Check the movements
Open the session and expand its warm-up or cool-down movements when you want instructions. Read any easier alternatives before starting. The main phase keeps its intended effort, including walking breaks where prescribed.
Choose how to record
Expand Recording before starting. For an outdoor phone session, leave Record distance with iPhone on to estimate distance, average pace and complete kilometre or mile splits. Allow location access and carry your phone. You do not need a wearable, Apple Health connection or suggested route. To record on your Watch, choose Record with Apple Watch and select iPhone + Watch or Watch only. Prepare that session using the Apple Watch guide before starting.
Choose your cues
Enable Spoken cues to hear the prepared natural Cedar recordings. They are AI-generated voice guidance. During a phone session, open Session options to change this setting. Repeat cue plays the current instruction again; Stop voice ends the current playback. Standard workout recordings are stored on your iPhone for offline use.
Prepare for a locked phone
Show on Lock Screen displays the timer and progress. Keep cues playing while locked is a separate control and requires supported workout access. During a phone session, find both in Session options. Confirm the guidance status and test your earphones before putting the phone away.
Start your session
If your accepted workout still fits today, choose Start session after any required check-in or review. Weather and route choices are optional. If the workout has changed, review the comparison and make your choice before starting.
Finish and record what happened
Pause the session when you want to stop the clock and recording. There is no automatic pause, so unpaused stops affect average pace. At the end, save your actual work and feedback. Usable phone distance fills the finish form; check it and edit if needed.
Already warmed up?
During the guided warm-up, choose Start main run and confirm if you are ready. During cool-down, you can finish early through the usual finish and save confirmation. These choices record only the exercise time you actually did. They do not shorten your selected route, change your accepted plan or add catch-up running.
Hear your distance
In Session options, expand Distance updates and enable Every kilometre or Every mile. Choose whether to include average pace and available heart rate. Updates use usable measured distance and active time, not progress along the suggested route. Turns and workout instructions take priority. Watch sessions keep their prepared settings; changes apply when you next prepare a run.
Optional live heart rate
Before starting, open Heart rate and enable Use live heart rate. Choose Apple Watch with Watch recording, or a compatible Bluetooth sensor connected to your carried iPhone. You can view readings without an effort target. Remind me to ease back is separate and needs a reviewed personal easy range plus enough fresh readings during eligible easy running. Missing readings clear without pausing your run.
Keep the main screen clear
Your session keeps the timer, current instruction, key measurements and Pause or Finish in view. Open Recording details beside the measurements for more information. About your session contains the full steps and explanations. With a selected route, View route & directions opens its map and directions. Closing a detail view does not stop your session.
Optional cadence, climbing and a map
Expand Recording, then More recording options before starting. Measure cadence & climbing uses permitted Motion & Fitness access and supported phone hardware. Declining it leaves GPS and the timer usable. Save my recorded map is off by default: enable it if you want to review your actual path later. Recording and route directions are separate, so ending directions does not end your recording.
If guidance is interrupted
An audio interruption does not pause the iPhone timer. Read the visible warning, check your earphones and try Repeat cue. If you paused the session yourself, use Resume when ready. After reopening VOXX, read any recovery notice: missing sensor data stays missing, even when elapsed time can be recovered. If locked-screen guidance is unavailable, keep VOXX open for spoken transitions.
Guidance is there to support attention
Keep the volume appropriate for your surroundings. Weak GPS can leave a partial recording or no usable distance; your time and feedback still matter. The iPhone alone does not measure heart rate. Live readings need a supported Watch or a selected compatible Bluetooth sensor; neither assesses exercise technique. Phone measurement accuracy and battery use are still being evaluated in the beta. Stop for pain or feeling unwell.
